December 21, 2009: Network Engineer

SNP is seeking a full-time, high-energy, experienced Network Engineer.

Network Field Engineer with minimum experience of 3 years in Microsoft and Cisco technologies; with hands-on experience in deploying servers, firewalls, routers and mobile devices; and with good written and verbal communication ability.

Responsibilities

Our Network Engineers are focused on delivering network design, implementation, support, and excellent customer service to our clients. The NE is responsible for designing, installing, and documenting networks including operating systems on servers and workstations; implementing internet connectivity, routers, switches, firewalls, virus protection, email systems and back-up; selecting, installing and maintaining applications; identifying new technology solutions, training clients on our solutions, and supporting all existing IT systems both remotely and onsite a client sites.

Experience & Qualifications

The Network Engineer must have three to five years of relevant, hands-on experience. Specific experience and qualifications desired include:

  • Experience with implementing Firewalls, VPN connections and WAN connectivity, preferably with Cisco products.

  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP Wins/DNS/DHCP and the ability to troubleshoot network and internet connectivity issues.

  • Windows XP /Vista troubleshooting and configuration.

  • Knowledge of supporting MS Office, MS Internet Explorer and MS Outlook.

  • Ability to install, configure and test server and workstation hardware including video cards, modems, NICs, hard drives, RAID5, tape drives and other devices

  • Maintenance of technical competence by keeping abreast of technology and technological developments, practices and procedures.

Education

Microsoft and Cisco Certifications. Prefer candidate with undergraduate degree in a technical discipline such as computer science, engineering, etc.

  • Takes ownership of tasks and follows through to ensure a smooth transition in hand-offs.

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail while performing technically detailed tasks.

  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.

  • Some evening and weekend hours are necessary.

Learning Ability

  • Ability to share easy-to-understand technical explanations about their own areas of expertise to others and a willingness to contribute to troubleshooting dialog with other consultants.

  • Adequate combination of product knowledge and technical knowledge that makes it possible to determine what may or may not be achieved.

  • Ability to articulate technical information clearly to non-technical people.

  • Ability to communicate internal and external difficulties effectively and to propose solutions in a constructive manner.

  • Excellent communication and innovative problem resolution skills.

Location

New Haven, CT. Candidate should be able to cover most of Connecticut. You must have your own transportation & insurance. Company reimburses for mileage and out of pocket travel costs.
